Pilot Call 2022: Empirical Social Sciences

With this pilot call in 2022, the WWTF aims to explore funding of a new research area "Empirical Social Sciences". This call aims to promote empirically oriented social sciences that address relevant societal questions and challenges. It is open to all disciplines that can broadly classified as social sciences. A goal of this call is to strengthen scientific foundations in the social sciences, and results arising funded projects may potentially contribute to evidence orientation in social decision-making. Thus, a focus or reference to Vienna and Austria should be of central importance in the topics to be researched. At the same time, projects should contribute to international research on these topics, which will in turn serve as benchmark for evaluation.

Quantitative Data Research

The WWTF pilot call "Quantitative Data Research" in the field of Empirical Social Sciences was open to researchers at universities and non-university research institutions, who seek to conduct a cutting-edge interdisciplinary research projects (duration: 2 to 4 years) on the basis of large data sets on socially relevant issues. The funding range per project is € 250,000 to € 600,000. The call jury selected 7 excellent projects for funding. Additional funding opportunities were available for collaborative projects between scientists in Vienna and Lower Austria.
