Employees are supported in everyday situations in which care bottlenecks occur due to the absence of the usual caregiver (e.g. illness of the babysitter) or changes in the working day (e.g. illness of a colleague causing changes in the duty roster) by a short-term, flexible service. Researchers of all career stages employed by MedUni Vienna with children under the age of 14 can resort to flexible, short-term childcare organized by the employer in case of emergency. (In Austria, there is a legal duty of supervision for children under 14 hence this offer exists. In general, we expect more demand for younger children.) The offered time slots can vary in time and location, but we expect the average duration to be 4 – 8 hours. It is also possible to request childcare for an entire group of children if required, e.g. on days when the kindergarten is closed. All scientists with children under the age of 14 can use this offer up to maximum two times per semester.
