The project ‘Applied Media and Instrument Archive Art and Research’ (AMI) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna aims to create (1) a generally accessible database and (2) a sustainable and regenerative collection of artistic and scientific materials, media and tools as well as (3) a documentation platform for their use. This project serves to support teaching and research by collecting and maintaining existing research media and equipment, documenting and visualising their use and, above all, making media and equipment available for use. Special emphasis is also placed on the regenerative utilisation of resources. This includes both the reuse and repair of existing equipment and the minimisation of new purchases. The AMI thus promotes a culture of sustainability and circular economy at the university. The database is not only intended to function as a lending system, but also to help build up an encyclopaedia that makes the history of use and possible applications of the instruments and materials comprehensible. Maintenance and servicing of the equipment will be made possible in a specially equipped workshop to ensure its long-term use. The infrastructure will be located within the research infrastructure. The project thus supports experimental teaching and research practice and complements the existing infrastructure.
