Through the foundation of a joint subsidiary in the form of the Max F. Perutz Laboratories, the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna have returned their resources to a common pool in the form of the molecular biology institutes created at the Vienna Biocenter in Bohrgasse.
Professor Arndt von Haeseler, called away from Düsseldorf University, is charged with setting up and managing the “Center for Integrative Bioinformatics Vienna” (CIBIV) on this location, in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and the other partners.
Arndt von Haeseler studies processes that shaped the genomes of today’s species. He develops methods to analyse sequential data with a view to exploring and emulating the evolutionary process. These methods are applied jointly with “wet lab” biologists to investigate biological issues.
