Through the foundation of a joint subsidiary in the form of the Max F. Perutz Laboratories, the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna have put their resources in a common pool in the form of the molecular biology institutes created at the Vienna Biocenter in Bohrgasse.
Professor Arndt von Haeseler, previously at Düsseldorf University, manages the “Center for Integrative Bioinformatics Vienna” (CIBIV) at the Vienna Biocenter in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and the other partners.
Arndt von Haeseler studies processes that shaped the genomes of today’s species. He develops methods to analyse sequential data with a view to exploring and emulating the evolutionary process. These methods are applied jointly with “wet lab” biologists to investigate biological issues.
